Sea Change

I love Cindy Spencer Pape’s bookd especially her steampunk series so I couldn’t wait to start this book. A hot, sexy merman seemed perfect. And, while this book is good, it felt as if it were two stories being meshed into one. By halfway through the book, the drug dealers are dealt with and the romance is going strong. However, now the story moves into an entirely different direction and a totally different problem. The world that is being developed doesn’t totally take shape and leaves many questions. The characters are well done though and I really liked them. Heidi is a sure confident woman who knows what she wants. Jake is a bit more elusive but he still comes across as a good character. Overall, I liked this book but I don’t think it reflects Ms Pape’s usual writing. Something just felt off, though I can’t say exactly what.

Heidi and her best friend are studying dolphins in Mexico. Suddenly, the cove where they are working is having packages being dropped from the sky and a boat is coming in to pick them up. It has to be drug dealers. Even though Heidi and her friend try to get away, their small boat is destroyed. Heidi is saved by a super hot guy they had seen earlier on his boat. Her friend can not be found. The next course of action is to hide from the drug dealers but they seem to have a long reach. Can Heidi stay alive? And, what happened to her friend?

Book Blurb for Sea Change

Shot at by drug dealers and left to drown, marine biologist Heidi is rescued by the hottest boat bum she’s ever seen. Tall, dark and handsome, Jake is every girl’s dream. But with her best friend missing or dead and the bad guys still after her, the last thing she has time for is romance.

As a merman, exiled from his colony and cursed to shapeshift with the moon, Jake can’t afford to be around humans, especially a marine biologist who might discover his species. But he can’t throw Heidi to the drug dealers and the possibly corrupt law enforcement. He’ll fight drug lords, pirates and even the gods to protect her. More complications arise when Jake’s family shows up looking for help, but the biggest problem of all is whether Jake and Heidi can resist the massive attraction that grows between them.
