Kyle ventures to the fetish house Angel's Heart in search of what, he doesn't exactly know, and we never quite find out either, but it may or may not have been the very attractive Nate who answers the door and agrees to teach Kyle the fine art of submissiveness. Nate, in turn, falls for Kyle like he's never fallen for anyone else and soon finds out he may not be the professional and distant dominant he thinks he is.
There are some great moments of humor, and several instances that got an honest smile of delight from me. The writing overall is well done, and the descriptions of the characters and their activities is detailed and believable.
I would have liked a little more background on the two main characters. Because I know so little about them, other than a brief rundown of Nate's history, the immediate attraction between the two men seems a little sudden and not quite realistic. I wanted to know where Kyle was coming from so I could be interested in where he was going; something more than "He had to be mad coming to a place like this, doing something so crazy, so unlike him." I wanted to know what he was like before, so that this really does seem crazy and unlike him. Several other scenes are similar; there are times when possible scenes are mentioned, that fetish-house owner Sydney said this or that, or that Kyle was hurt long ago . . . but we're only told about them instead of shown. Nate is more fully drawn and wonderfully sympathetic.
We do get several good insights into the characters and their feelings in the present, but I feel like there were a lot of missed chances here, and it would have been great to see Ms. Rayne not hold back so much and push the boundaries of comfort a bit more to add a touch of tension beyond the sexual. What conflict there is, is largely existential, and there's never a moment of doubt about what the relationship will be at the end. The sex scenes themselves, while detailed and steamy and involving a few toys, are fairly mild for BDSM, though the sexual tension remains strong throughout.
In general, it's a solid and well-written novella, worth the read, especially if you're looking for a love story between two men that will leave you with a wry smile and warm fuzzies.
Nate Jacobs has his health, a roof over his head, food in his stomach, and a best friend to keep him grounded. What more does a Dominant need? That's what he always thought until Kyle Turner knocked on his door.
In a slump since his last break up, Kyle Turner decides to try something different. Angel's Heart. A House of Dominants. Kyle has no idea what to expect, but he definitely gets more than he bargained for when he puts himself at Nate's mercy.literally.
Irresistible attraction draws Kyle deeper and deeper into Nate's world of domination and submission. But in order to find love, the Master will have to surrender and allow his submissive's love to dominate him.
