Power Shift by Kelly Jamieson is a hot, bittersweet and fast paced BDSM novel. It's the third story by Ms. Jamieson to feature "La Chateau", a BDSM club in the Santa Barbara area. Several of the characters appearing in this book have been featured in the Ms. Jamieson's previous BDSM books, Power Struggle and Taming Tara.

Gabe Pejovic is a complete Alpha male who's used to being in control of all aspects of his life. Having sold the controlling interests of his construction company, he now finds himself having to deal with a board during a difficult time in the business. He's also a Master Dom at "La Chateau" a local BDSM Club, but isn't having any fun since his favorite playmate fell in love with another Dom and walked out of his life. As if that wasn't enough for him to deal with, his mother is dying from Alzheimer's and he knows it's just a matter of time before he gets the call which tells him she's gone. Not one to deal with his emotions, Gabe is in danger of spiraling out of control when he's forced to work with Reagan, a beautiful, intelligent woman, who also happens to be a submissive - one he thinks could be perfect for him.

Reagan Somerville left her life in San Francisco out of necessity; she needed a new life and moving to Santa Barbara two years ago, saved her. An architect by trade, she's working to establish herself at Pacific Design. She's also a member of the "Young Professionals Group" that both Tara Lockhart and Tori Markham belong to. Becoming friends with Tara and Toni has helped ease Reagan's loneliness and when Tara and her fianc‚ Joe, offer her an opportunity to design a new building for Tara's family's olive business - Reagan jumps at the chance. She never thought she'd have to work with a surly contractor or that she would fall for him and risk her new found peace.

The scenes between Gabe and Reagan are hot, hot, and hot. They have incredible sexual chemistry and it's obvious from their first meeting, which is somewhat contentious. While they are both attracted to each other, Reagan is more emotionally stable at the start of the story and she's the one who works at trying to make their business relationship work. She doesn't want to lose a potentially large client by fighting with Gabe. Ms. Jamieson did an excellent job of developing the relationship between Gabe and Reagan. We get insights into their past, which is driving their current behavior. Gabe realizes he could end up losing a pivotal job his company needs and begins to make an effort to get along, which off course adds more sexual tension to their relationship. When they give in to their desires, things really heat up. I know I needed several cold drinks throughout their love scenes.

As Gabe and Reagan get to know each other better, Gabe realizes she's unlike any other woman he's ever known and he finds it difficult to open up about his emotions and what he's going to, he doesn't mind sharing about his business woes or the situation with his mother but finds it extremely difficult to share about his other emotional problems, especially his feelings tied to his past as a young man in Bosnia. Reagan loves learning about Gabe but knows he's holding something big back and wants him to trust her, like she's trusted him by telling him about her past. Going to a house warming party at Tara and Joe's brings things to a head when Gabe comes face to face with his past and Reagan finds out about "La Chateau".

The end of the story is pretty emotional when Gabe realizes he's between a rock and a hard place and has no choice but to deal with his emotions and let Reagan in all of the way. Will Reagan be able to handle all he shares about his past? And will they learn to trust each other completely? You'll have to read Power Shift to find out. I know I hope we get at least one more story set in this world Ms. Jamieson has created, I think Tara's sister Sasha and her new boyfriend Nick deserve to have their tale told too
