It is the intertwining layers between David's investigation and how it makes him look at his own recent past due to some similarities that make the story come alive. While the similarities may be cosmetic in the face of David's and Stella's backgrounds, they bind the story together. Reading about what comes next for David and Jamie as their relationship progresses from where it stood at the beginning of the story, how they see it, how they work at it - is a nice contrast between David's business and private lives. Look forward to seeing what comes next.
Missing Daughter, Shattered Family is a good, solid read. The primary focus is on David's investigation into Stella Barrowman' disappearance. As David's investigation goes on, it makes him reflect on his past and what happened yo him. It also makes him ask more of his partner and new facets of their relationship are uncovered even as David peels off more layers off the Barrowman family and what really is behind the facade of the troubled girl.
First in a series.
When a brutal homophobic attack ended David Lloyd's career as a police officer, his life was changed forever. Five years later David is running his own private detective agency, where a missing person's case comes to his attention. Digging into the circumstances of her disappearance forces David to realize he has not dealt with what happened to him, and that he can no loner deal with his long-time partner's fear of being honest about their relationship.
Solving the case might not only bring peace to a shattered family, but could finally put David's own demons to rest.
