Blaze #563 - It Takes a Hero

Elena de la Vega is a very intelligent and pretty girl. Working for the headquarters of the Defense Procurement Agency on the outskirts of D.C. has made her realize that as much as she loves her job, the rest of her life stinks. She has never known what it feels like to have some toe curling sex with a fun partner in bed. Every guy she’s been with has been boring and didn’t fulfill her needs. She wonders if things will ever change for her.
Receiving yet another notification from the Director’s office that they are looking for civilian volunteers- especially those with contracts and legal experience- to work in Iraq for six months negotiating and monitoring the defense contracts there, she decides that maybe she should volunteer. This is completely out of character for her, but maybe this is the perfect way to start fresh on leading a more adventurous life.
When she arrives in Kuwait City where she’ll be transported to her assignment, which is the Green Zone in Baghdad that has a fitness center, modern plumbing and a fast-food burger joint, she gets delayed for three days because of a sandstorm. When she finally does receive her clearance, she finds out that her assignment has now changed to a remote outpost in northern Afghanistan, where there aren’t many conveniences at all. So with a few hours on her hands she takes the advice of one of the military woman and crashes a party that the U.S. embassy is hosting at her hotel as a small send-off for some of the aides who are returning to the States. This usually wouldn’t be something she did, but there’s always an exception to the rule.
Arriving at the party, she sees everyone having a great time. She hopes that no one will realize that she doesn’t belong there and she can have a few drinks and eat in peace. While she’s belting back a few drinks, she’s approached by a man dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans and he’s sexy as hell. One things leads to another and they’re heading to her hotel room.
First Sergeant Chase McCormick believes that a woman’s place is not in a combat zone because they only make his men forget their training while they’re trying to protect a female. Then he meets Elena and sparks fly. A fling is all he wants right now with Elena, but when all is said and done, he just can’t get her off his mind. Then the unthinkable happens. The very next morning when she arrives at her new post, she finds Chase there too. He’s angry because she’s gotten under his skin enough to start changing his own way of seeing things. He’ll make it his priority to protect her until he sees if she can be flown to another assignment.
Does Elena get sent to a different post? What happens between her and Chase? Does this fling turn into something more in the end?
I absolutely loved this story! The storyline was entertaining and I was thoroughly engrossed for a few hours. Ms. Foley developed well-rounded characters and made me feel as if I knew both Chase and Elena personally. I found myself anxious to find out what will happen next as I turned each page. If you’re looking for a great read that you can get lost in for a couple of hours than look no further. This one is definitely being added to my library!

Book Blurb for Hot-Blooded

First Sergeant Chase McCormick isn't a chauvinist. But he does believe that women have no place in combat zones. Why? Because his men forget their training! They fall all over themselves trying to protect the women around them. As far as Chase is concerned, females belong in the bedroom, the home, the office. But not anywhere near Chase McCormick when he's on duty.

Too bad nobody mentioned that to gorgeous Elena de la Vega. She's been sent to Chase's remote outpost in northern Afghanistan.

After they'd shared a sizzling one-night stand!

Elena can handle herself. It's Chase who needs a directive on how to deal with his own wildly undisciplined sexual attraction to the woman! Because her presence is making short work of his hardened soldier training.and putting more than their hearts at risk.
