Leaving the wreckage of her life behind her, Lola and her two friends head anywhere but Vegas in a dinosaur of a convertible. When the land-barge gasps its last breath in a small town in Texas, she and her friends are forced to find work to try to fix their transportation. And maybe take up with a hot man while they wait. Lola’s choice is Sheriff Sam Campbell. Yum.
Sam has been burned bad before. His wife left him for a rich man, not happy with small town life married to an honest working man. When he sees Lola he’s quick to paint her with the same brush, although that doesn’t stop him from pursuing her, albeit reluctantly. He can’t seem to help himself. And isn’t that a compliment? Not!
Never judge a book by its cover. Isn’t that what we are all taught? Sam just sees the glamour of Lola, not the woman underneath. Not at first. His pain runs deep from his wife’s betrayal, but that’s not Lola’s fault, nor should she have to pay the price. When a man from Lola’s past shows up in the small town to win her back, Sam sees only what he expected.
While this is a short read and the characters are a little sketchy, I got a good "feel" for both Sam and Lola and truly enjoyed their story. The sex was hot and steamy, of course, and Lola’s personal "show" made quite an impression. If you’ve read the first in this series, you’ll certainly want to read this one as well.
Lola Lamont leaves Vegas with two pals, never imagining they’d break down in small-town Texas. So what’s a former showgirl to do when she runs smack dab into the hottest sheriff south of the Mason Dixon line? Why, jump his bones, of course!
Sam Campbell takes one look at the Vegas Bombshell and knows damn good and well she belongs in his bed. She probably has the words gold digger tattooed to her ass but he’s ready to take what the sexy blonde has to offer. Vowing to protect his heart, Sam rocks her world. Too bad she’s rocking his right back. Sam is more than ready to handle some sass, spunk and sex, but is he willing to gamble on love?
