The Mercenary Way

Sarah is a creature Clint isn’t familiar with. Being a mercenary he associates with the seedier side of humanity, and Sarah is a woman who is loyal and will stand in the way of danger for those she loves. When he agrees to extract her from a dangerous situation not of her making he is taking on more than he bargained for.

Sarah is in the wrong place at the wrong time and is kidnapped by a ruthless man determined to use her as leverage to regain something he thinks she has. Knowing it’s her business associate/best friend Susan he wants she just bides her time trying to think a way out of the mess she finds herself in. When Clint arrives to save her she’s not sure if he’s much better than the men holding her. As they run for their lives through the jungle she soon finds herself a victim again, only this time to the desire this enigmatic man inspires in her.

Dangerous circumstances have a way of speeding up things. Clint and Sarah learn more about one another in days than most people do in a lifetime. Sarah was a tad disappointing in the beginning with her screaming which branded her too stupid to live in my mind. Clint was stoic and his internal dialogue revealing as he contemplating ditching her more than once. But chemistry wins out in the end and opens the door to more. Clint struggles with the emotions Sarah invokes and in return Sarah questions the same. The sex was steamy, the ending a bit cliched but it worked. A good read.
