Art Supplies for Coloring Books
This is Tammie King from Night Owl Reviews. I'm the founder of NOR and I love to color. In this section, I'll be sharing some of the awesome art supplies out there.
Currently, some of my favorite coloring supplies are:
Good pencil sharpener with both small and wide sharpener holes. The sharpener I have is enclosed, so the shavings are collected.
Markers can make your drawings pop, but they can also bleed through paper.
When it comes to using markers I typically use Copic Markers. They are expensive! So, depending on how much you have to spend you should find a marker that fits your budget. I typically get Copic's at around $5.50 each, but I buy in bulk. One off markers typically go for $7.50 or so. The Copic Markers that I buy can be refilled with ink, making them more affordable down the line. The brush tip is the best option for coloring. Using these markers take practice as you have to figure out how much they bleed. But markers can bring a whole new look to your coloring projects. But many coloring books are not compatible with markers.
If you have a coloring book where there are back to back pictures think about sticking with pencils.
Tip: Really soft pencils do best in the wide sharpener hole. If you use the small hole the pencil tip will break off and be unstable.
Give your art pencils the care they deserve. Handy tin case holds up to 24 Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils. As an artist, high-quality pencils are some of your best tools, so keep them protected and organized. Also makes it easy to get to just the colors you need when moving from place to place.
Derwent Watercolor Pencils, 24-Ct. Metal Tin
Create a Wide Range of Exciting Effects, from Bold to Soft, Subtle Expressions
Derwent watercolor pencils are versatile and professional artist-quality, watersoluble pencils that create a wide range of exciting effects, from bold, vibrant images to soft, subtle impressions. Combining the control of a pencil with the beauty of traditional watercolors, their high pigment content offers exceptional color blend, wet or dry.
Create intense color by applying a dry pencil over wet washes. Make sure you use a blunt tip to avoid surface damage. To produce texture or mottling, scrape flakes from the tip of the pencil with a craft knife, or rub the tip over a sandpaper block, allowing settling and dissolving on a wet area of the paper. Alternatively, flick color off the tip of the pencil with a wet toothbrush. Blend color and create washes by dragging a natural sponge or wet cloth over dry marks. Make sure that you regularly clean the pencil tip by scribbling on dry paper to minimize color contamination.
The pencils are pre-sharpened for immediate use and a color-dipped end offers easy color identification. An ideal gift for the budding art student or the artist in you.
Tip: Colored Pencils have a tendency to wear off onto reverse pages. To protect your work, place a piece of paper between your colorings.
